Recipe For Panda Bun & Kaya Bun

Panda Bun

Kaya Bao
Kaya Bao

Makes : about 10 buns
Ingredients :
- 130g warm water
- 5g instant yeast
- 300g flour ( Boa flour, flour for bun ), and some extra for spreading on the rolling platform to prevent the doughs from sticking
- 80g icing sugar
- 32g oil
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 big bottle of Kaya
- green coloring for the dough

* Note : in case you do not have Kaya or do not like Kaya, you can replace the Kaya filling with other types of bread spread such as Peanut Butter or Jam of  your choice.

Method :
(A) - mix yeast with the warm water and 1 tbsp of icing sugar, stir gently, cover with wet cloth, leave it for 45mins.
(B) - in another bowl, using a sieve strain the flour, baking power and the balance of the icing sugar.
- after 45mins, stir (A) gently, slowly add oil and (A) into the mixer of (B).
- add a few little drops of green coloring to the dough and knead the dough until soft and smooth (about 10mins), cover with wet cloth or cling wrap, leave for 30mins.
- after 30mins, divide the dough to every 50g each, use both palms to roll a little into a ball shape, ( sprinkle some flour on the rolling platform and roller to prevent them from sticking, or you can use the plastic cling on top of the doughs so that they don't stick to the roller,  ) then  use a baking roller to roll each dough flat, lay on your palm like a little bowl, fill about 1 1/2 btsp of Kaya onto it, wrap it from side to the center and seal it at the center. (see picture below)

-  cut small size of papers bigger then the doughs and lay underneath the doughs, make sure the center sealed is up side down.
- cover all the doughs with wet cloth for another 30mins.
- while waiting, get the steamer ready and boil the water.
- when the water is boiling, put in the doughs and steam for 15mins.

* Hey, how about having more fun by making your buns look more interesting?? Here's what i did......  Panda buns! Haha!

First, i did a sketch on a paper, then after confirmed the design, i rolled my dough flat, cut then shape and pasted on the bun!
