White wheat ginkgo nuts dessert ( bubur gandung putih ) |
Ingredients :
- 250g of white wheat ( soak in water, leave for overnight )
- 200ml coconut milk
- 150g gula Melaka
- 150ml water ( to dissolve gula Melaka )
- 1 tsp salt
- 4 to 5 pieces of screwpine leaves ( pandan leaves, tied knot )
- some fresh ginkgo nuts ( boil in the water till cooked, discard away the center stems )
Note : do not mistaken white wheat with barley!! |
Method :
- soak the wheat over night, enough water to cover the wheat.
- dissolve the gula Melaka under low fire, use sieve to filter away any undissolved debris.
- pour away the water from the overnight, add new fresh water 2 inches above the wheat, put to boil then turn to medium fire, add the pandan leaves and simmer for about 40mins, or until the wheat is double the size, soften and about to "open". ( stir every once a while to prevent it from sticking on the base )
- then add the coconut milk, gula Melaka and salt.
- keep string for another 10 mins, then top with ginkgo nuts.
Filter away undissolved debris |
Serve while hot, enjoy your dessert!
