Penang Duck Organs Koay Teow Soup, yummy! |
Duck & Pig's intestines |
Venue : 113 Lebuh Melay, Penang
Recently in Penang, i went to try the Penang Famous Duck Koay Teow Soup & Duck Intestines at Lebuh Melayu, Penang. As i am sharing here, my saliva is dripping craving for it now, gosh!! Hahaha! I am not a person who is good in words, but i try to describe it my best as i can!
When i first entered this small "coffee shop", it looks like any ordinary old shop after the II World War with new paint, with old type of marble tables and wooden chairs, big commercial fridge and a small corner for preparing drinks. At the entrance, there is the stall covered with bamboo blinds where the guy preparing the food, nothing unique.......

Each of us ordered a "must try" Duck Koay Teow Soup, on top of that we also ordered some duck and pig intestines and duck meat to go along. Here came the food..........the koay teow soup was served in bowls, when we looked at it, the soup was crystal clear! ( see the pic above ) I was thinking, how could it be tasty as the soup was so clear??? But i was wrong!!!
Do not judge the book by its' cover!!! The soup was ......... damn yummy!!! For a person who doesn't really like to eat duck, i would say "Thumbs Up!!!" The taste of the soup was superb! Non oily with little dried garlic to make it more aromatic! The duck meat was tender, the thickness of the duck liver was just nice and the duck spleen was not hard nor chewy, and they have the meat balls which i believe mixed with duck meat as the taste was not entirely taste like pork, the fish balls were ok too.
Then, came the intestines.......i never had any duck intestines before, it was my first time! The duck intestines are yellowish color compare to the pig intestines as you can see the pic above. To my surprise, the thickness of duck intestines are thinner that the pig and soft. I would say the cook is very good in preparing the intestines, as the was no funny smell or odors on it. Preparing intestines is no easy job, i cook pig intestines before so i know you need the patience to wash a few times with salt, blanch in water with ginger or marinate or blanch with some herbs to get rid of the odors, and you got to cook at the right duration of time so that the intestines will not shrink so much or harden.
I know there are a few Duck Noodles Stalls in Penang which are quite famous, which they prepare in different ways, this stall is just one of them. So if you happen to be in Penang, do try!
Any of you like to comment about this stall or any other duck noodles stall to recommend, please do not hesitate to share! Thank You & Have A Good Day!
